COMMUNITY Foundations are the beneficiaries of all our books, and this year we have teamed up with Somerset Community Foundation with a special Christmas offer available at community shops at villages around the county. So far, eight shops are stocking Deepest Somerset and selling it at the bargain price of £15, with the profits going to the Community Foundation for its Surviving Winter appeal.
On a beautiful, cold November morning, we delivered books to Kingsdon, Stoke St Gregory, Taunton, Crowcombe, Stogumber, Brent Knoll and Draycott. Stoke sub Hamdon already has its supply. We were glad of satellite navigation, but thought you might enjoy the story of our visit to the village stores at Stoke St Gregory. Following the directions of the disembodied voice in the car, we approached the village from the north and were told to take the second turning to the left. The little map on the dashboard marked a drove, and we started to pull in, to be confronted by a long muddy path with lots of water … and no sign of any building, neither house nor shop.
Then we spotted this sign at the end of the drove …
