Help us to reach our target of £115,000
CHRISTMAS 2024 is fast approaching – just about six weeks to go, so still plenty of time to order your copies of Deepest Wiltshire and DEEPEST Somerset. We know, from the feedback we get from people who have our books, that they are well-loved and well-read.
In some respects, 2024 hasn’t been a great year, but here at Deepest Books we have notched up some big achievements. Deepest Dorset, our first book, launched in 2016, is now sold out. And we have now been able to give nearly £110,000 to the beneficiary charities in Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset.
The Dorset beneficiaries were the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Dorset Community Foundation, Weldmare Hospicecare and the RNLI station at Lyme Regis. The Wiltshire charities are Swindon and Wiltshire Community Foundation, Wiltshire Ambulance, SSAFA and Salisbury Hospice. The Somerset charities are Somerset Community Foundation, the Children’s Hospice South West and the Farming Community Network.
The total handed out to the charities so far is £109,260 – and we would like to present a further £6,000 by the end of the year. So with your help, we should reach that important target this year!
We have achieved these amazing results with the support of book-sellers, farm shops and other retail outlets – and our own efforts at charity events, including the Salisbury Hospice Summer Fair, the Open Gardens event at Hatch House, Tisbury, and the annual celebration meetings of Swindon and Wiltshire Community Foundation and Somerset Community Foundation – and the books that we send out from our home. We have had boxes of books all over the house for 97 months – that’s more than eight years!
Being involved with the important charities that are supported by sales of our books has opened some surprising doors for us. Not only are we invited to the annual meetings of the charities, or to take part in their public fund-raising events, but we have been able to go behind-the-scenes at Wiltshire Air Ambulance, the Children’s Hospice South West at Wraxall in Somerset, Weldmar Hospice in Dorset and the RNLI station at Lyme Regis. In June, we were among a small group of supporters of Somerset Community Foundation who were invited for a tour of Hinkley Point C, the vast nuclear power plant being built near Bridgwater on the Somerset coast.
